On Tuesday March 10, 2020, artists and musicians from our district were featured at Filippo's, a popular restaurant in West Allis.

“With over 30 Shining Strings members and a full restaurant -- we really had a fun evening,” said Music Curriculum Lead Mary Pat Michels. “Filliop’s was filled with families that came to see art, hear music, and eat great food!”

The talented group typically plays at receptions and dinners around the community. They also gather in quartets and trios to play at corporate events.

“Our repertoire consists of audience favorites, traditional classical music, and covers of songs by current and familiar artists. We play songs from Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Van Morrison, and Imagine Dragons. Our musicians enjoy the variety and we love to share our music with the community,” adds Michels.

The event also featured artwork created by students from Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate, Walker Elementary, Hoover Elementary, and Mitchell Elementary. Each school provided between 10-12 pieces of student work.

“This event was a reminder that some of the greatest inspiration comes from the minds and expressions of our youth,” said Restaurant manager, Kristine Ticali. “It was best summarized by our 90-year-old owner Filippo, Sr. He said we should do this every week!”

Filippo's Italian Restaurant is located on 6915 W. Lincoln Avenue, West Allis.
