On April 24, 2019, teachers and their students organized Autism Awareness Day at West Allis Central High School.

An interactive display case was set up for staff and students to learn more information and facts about autism. In addition, Special Education Teacher, Marnie McCann and the Central Perk Cafe hosted a celebration serving up blue juice and cotton candy before school.
Blue is the color that represents autism awareness and support and understanding for people with autism.

This year, the students in Social Inquiry classes painted puzzle piece magnets and pins to hand out to students and staff. Students love being involved with the Autism Awareness celebration. Special Education Teacher, Katie Rucka, says “I am always very humbled by the outpouring of support from staff and students for individuals with all abilities. Central's support of students with autism and disabilities is heartfelt and wonderful.”
