On Thursday, September 26, 2019, Jefferson Elementary School went on a Mindset Mission and based on NED:

NEVER GIVE UP - Understand the power of yet.

ENCOURAGE OTHERS - Spark courage in other people.

DO YOUR BEST - Always be learning and growing

The assembly involves a cartoon boy named NED and takes students on a very important mission: to find his mindset.

According to principal, Dr. Quiana Polk, “A mindset refers to whether you believe qualities such as intelligence and talent are fixed or changeable traits. People with a fixed mindset believe these qualities are inborn, fixed, and unchangeable. Those with a growth mindset believe these abilities can be developed and strengthened by way of commitment and hard work. We want our students to have a growth mindset.”

Led by clues and memorable characters, NED overcomes Mt. Everest’s toughest obstacles, uncovers inner-treasures on a Caribbean island, and grows his brain while repairing a sputtering spaceship. Throughout the performance, students discovered how to activate their growth mindset to overcome social, emotional and academic challenges.

“The presenter used yo-yo tricks to help teach students that learning something new is not always easy. What's important is to keep trying and learn from mistakes. That’s key to a growth mindset,” adds Polk.
