For over 25 years, the Recreation and Community Services Department has partnered with special education teachers in our District to hold a Snowball Dinner and Dance in February. The Snowball Dinner Dance will take place on Friday, February 28, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Nathan Hale High School.

The dance, presented by the School District and the Recreation Department, is for all high school students in special education, all participants in the Community-Based Transition Program, and any former graduates and friends.

Community-Based Transition Program teacher, Jackie Jacoby, has been a huge part of making the dance happen every year. When asked about the dance’s importance, Jackie said, "although we like to advocate for inclusion into regular school and recreation extra-curricular activities, The Snowball Dance is a night for individuals to really be themselves. All the participants get dressed up and have a lovely dinner. It is a night to have fun with friends enjoying music and dancing while their parents can have a night to themselves."

Emily Wisch, a Community Based Transition Program participant, says her favorite part is “dancing with all of her friends”.

Dinner will be provided for all attendees, and the attire is semi-formal. Registration is accepted at the West-Allis West Milwaukee Recreation Department, 1205 S. 70th
St, online at, or by phone at 414-604-4900. There is no fee to attend the event, but donations are welcomed. Contact Dan Steenrod, Recreation Program Manager, at 414-604-4951 or if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering.
