When the Nathan Hale High School Class of 1943 got together for a small reunion, it was a perfect opportunity for a king and queen to be reunited.

According to Mary Beth Gehl, daughter of James Gehl, when her father met with his classmates, he was able to connect with a special person -- his junior prom queen, Marjorie Bachelder. “It was the first Junior Prom at Nathan Hale High School. The school had just converted from a junior high to a high school. Stardust’ was the theme song.”

Today, Gehl lives in rural Neosho, Dodge County.  Bachelder-Kobs lives at Cedar Communities in West Bend. Both have spouses that have passed away.

“My dad has lived his entire life on a farm except for the four years he attended Nathan Hale High School in West Allis. He was captain of his football team and has many fond memories of his time there. He is still on his farm, in great mental health, and doing well at 94.”

It had been at least 40 years since the two had seen each other, but if you do the math, it was 77 years since their prom,” adds Gehl. “It was a very special class reunion.”
