When schools closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, our food service partner, Sodexo, quickly transitioned to food distribution at a variety of sites throughout the community.

“We are very aware that many students rely on breakfast and lunch at school. We started this program on March 17, 2020 and it will continue Monday through Friday while schools are closed,” said Sodexo Food Service Manager, Steve Kosnar.

From the start, Sodexo provided free, healthy grab and go meals to any child 18 years and younger. A typical meal is a sandwich, vegetable, fruit, and milk. As demand grew, additional sites were added. Now, Sodexo is also offering hot meals that can be microwaved or heated in the oven at home.

Drive through or walk up service is available as food pick-up is considered an essential activity.  Children do not need to be enrolled in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District or live in the communities we serve to be eligible.

“We have served over 10,000 meals thus far. We are proud to help support families in this way. Any child in need of meals is welcome,” adds Kosnar.
