This is the image for the news article titled FACT Team Meeting #3Our District held its third FACT TEAM meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Over 65 representatives composed of parents, staff and community members were present on ZOOM.

The FACT TEAM is charged with making recommendations to the West Allis-West Milwaukee Board of Education regarding the following two questions:
  1. How can schools be renovated and/or replaced and/or consolidated in ways that inspire and shape learning for the future
  2. How can we do this in ways that are cost effective for our community?
The meeting, which was led by Bray Architects, CG Schmidt, and District leaders, began with an introduction of master plan framework parameters. Framework Parameters are a set of criteria that align with the District’s educational goals, and were established by District administration. The parameters will help guide the FACT team as it explores potential facility solutions over the next few meetings, ensuring the solutions remain in alignment with the District’s strategic plan.

After reviewing the framework parameters, the committee was introduced to, and reviewed, the first round of long-range facility pathways, breaking into groups to discuss each. The long-range pathways, which are potential solutions graphically presented to provide consistency in comparison during the facilities planning process, will be discussed in more detail in the coming months and will eventually be narrowed for further exploration. Key observations and driving questions from the meeting can be found below.

Meeting #3 Key Observations + Driving Questions
  • After being introduced to new grade configurations in the long-range facility pathways, committee members expressed interest in learning more about comparative districts and how different grade configurations have worked in their respective districts. This would be helpful to answer questions related to configurations committee members do not have experience with.
  • Committee members are interested in gaining a better understanding of the overall long-range plan to help provide a broader perspective.
  • It would be helpful for committee members to see a bigger picture timeline to help answer their questions surrounding how and when potential solutions would be implemented.
Next Steps

During the next meeting on March 16, 2021, FACT will continue reviewing/discussing long-range facility pathways to narrow down options for further exploration.
