We are proud to announce that Central High School Social Studies Teacher, Carrie Hanson, was selected for the 2020 Herb Kohl Educational Teacher Fellow Award. 

“The Teacher Fellow Award recognizes teachers for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students. This award includes a $6,000 grant for the recipient and for the school,” said Director of Leadership and Learning, Deidre Roemer.

Carrie Hanson has been a teacher for six years.  She spent three years teaching at Nathan Hale High School before joining the staff at West Allis Central High School.  During her tenure, she teaches social studies, criminal justice, world history, and advanced placement human geography
.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Hanson
is an advisor for the Student Council and Interact Club. She is also involved in AVID, a program that helps close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  Hanson is also the Positive Behavior Intervention System Team Leader for Central High School. 

“I am so grateful and thankful for the people I get to work with, especially to the many amazing mentors I have been surrounded with since I came to West Allis. I love this community with all my heart. I look forward to continuing to grow as a teacher and a person with my students and our Central family,” says Hanson. 

“Ms. Hanson is a great teacher. She builds strong relationships and her dedication extends far beyond the classroom,” said Superintendent, Dr. Marty Lexmond. “We are all very proud of her and her work at Central High School.” 

Award recipients will be honored on May 9, 2020 in Milwaukee.
