The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District serves 7,500 students at eleven 4K - 5th grade elementary schools, three 6th - 8th grade intermediate schools, two comprehensive 9th - 12th grade high schools. The District also has one project-based learning high school, a charter school that serves teen parents, and programs for children with special needs.
Its eighteen schools are primarily located in West Allis (population 60,000) with two schools in the Village of West Milwaukee (population 4,100), and one school in the City of New Berlin (population 40,000). The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is the twelfth largest district in Wisconsin.
Currently, 50% of the students belong to ethnic minority groups of which 26% are Hispanic and 11% are African American. Additionally, 60% of all students come from economically disadvantaged families, 15% are students identified with disabilities, and 3% are students identified as English Language Learners. The District also serves 112 students identified as homeless.
