WAWM Shining Strings was invited to perform at the State Capitol on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. The performance is part of the 2019 “Capitol Concerts for Music In Our Schools Month.”

“There were only 10 slots available and we were selected as one of 22 applications,” explained WAWM Shining Strings Director, Mrs. Mary Pat Michels.

WAWM Shining Strings is a string ensemble made up of West Allis-West Milwaukee School District orchestra students in grades 7-12. They perform for District activities, community service groups, civic organizations, and private events. “Our goal is to provide highly motivated string players with an opportunity to perform music at an advanced level. The students see sharing their music and performing across Southeastern Wisconsin as their mission. In the words of one student “to show everyone that young people do good things for their community.”

“We perform at over thirty community and private events a year,” said Michels, “This performance is a real honor for us!”
