As a community, we have a long tradition of working together to ensure that our schools are places where students are welcomed and inspired to do their best. We know each school in the District plays a vital role in preparing children for their future.

Over the past four years, we’ve been working diligently to address some significant challenges. We’ve balanced enrollment and open enrollment by implementing neighborhood school attendance areas. We’ve addressed a fund balance deficit with reorganization and budget cuts. We’ve consolidated to three intermediate schools and we’re working to sell our District property on South 70th street.

Now, we’re using a District-wide strategic plan to achieve our goals. We’re focused on teaching and learning in new and innovative ways. We’ve implemented better supports for the well-being of students in our schools and we’re using a new student information system to improve communication with students and families. We’re making strides to ensure that all students are college and career ready when they graduate!

This December, we invited parents, community members and staff to attend a “State of the Schools” presentation. It was designed to help people understand where we’ve been and where we’re headed.

We are grateful for those of you that attended our presentation. For those that could not, we invite you to read this material. We will have additional communication about the information included in this presentation in the weeks to come!
