On Saturday, March 30, 2019, West Allis-West Milwaukee School District music teacher, Scott Greger, will be recognized with a Certificate of Excellence in General Music from the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee. Each year, the Civic Music Association and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra partner to recognize area music teachers and administrators nominated by their colleagues and/or students. This year, the recognition event takes place prior to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Brahms’ A German Requiem. The event is held in March to coincide with “Music in Our Schools” month.

Casey Unger, the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District orchestra teacher that nominated Gregor, explains, “As a colleague, Scott is always open to collaborating with the band and orchestra teachers in his building as well as other elementary music teachers in the District. I am very fortunate to work with him. He provides students with wonderful musical experiences both at school and in the West Allis community.”

Greger currently teaches general music at Irving elementary school, and has also taught at Wilson, Lincoln, Horace Mann, and Madison elementary schools. This is his twelfth year teaching in the District, and fifteenth year in the profession. He previously taught in Oconomowoc and Janesville. Currently, Greger teaches students from 4 year-old kindergarten to fifth grade. “Irving Elementary School is very diverse - we have a large population of students with special needs. Working in music education is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding,” says Greger.

Greger received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College in 2003, and a Master of Music from UW-Milwaukee in 2014. He is an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha where he sings, plays handbells, and works with high school youth. He currently sings with the Jubilate Chorale. In October, Greger will celebrate his tenth anniversary with wife, Sheri. They have a son, Eli, who enjoys everything about being three, which includes singing, dancing, and monster trucks.
