On Saturday, January 7, 2017 a fire at the Morgan Grove Apartment Complex in West Allis displaced approximately 75 residents.  Many of these residents are families with children in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. Our hearts go out to our families and we are grateful that there were no injuries.

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District and our larger community are organizing support for our families impacted by the fire.  Families from Mitchell Elementary, Hoover Elementary,  Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate, Lane Intermediate, Nathan Hale High School, and other schools are in need of our support.

If you are one of our families that was displaced by the fire, please know that we are prepared to provide assistance through our Community Closets at Horace Mann Elementary and Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate. The Horace Mann Community Closet will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each night this week. Families are encouraged to stop by if they are in need of clothing,  food, or school supplies. An online request form can be completed in advance so items can be prepared for pick up.

The Horace Mann Community Closet online request form is available here.

The FLW Community Closet online request form is available here.

The Red Cross is also providing support.  The Red Cross can be contacted at 414-342-8680.

If employees and community members would like to make donations to help our families in need, we are requesting support in the form of gift cards from Pick N Save, Target, Walmart, or any gas cards.  Gift card donations can be delivered to the WAWM School District Administration Building at 1205 South 70th Street, West Allis, WI 53214 to the attention of Cari Krueger located on the 4th floor. These cards will be distributed to families through our community closets.

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District and the communities we serve are committed to helping one another in times of need.  We encourage families displaced by the fire to reach out for support and we encourage members of the school district and larger community to get involved to help.  We are a community that cares.
