During the summer, we have worked hard to prepare for the start of the school year. Despite our collective efforts, we are aware of bus transportation issues that will impact us over the next two days. The majority of these issues were resolved through the hard work of our staff and our bus company, First Student.
Families eligible for transportation that received a bus route card from First Student or received a call from a school district staff member with routing information have confirmed transportation beginning today.
Yesterday we inadvertently sent a voice message to all families in a number of schools where we knew of transportation issues. This message was only meant for specific families with transportation issues. We are contacting families in these schools again to clarify.
There are still approximately 30 families (which is 1% to 1.5% of our student population of 9,200) that we are working with regarding their bus service. These families will receive communication from First Student by Saturday and their bus service will begin Tuesday.
We are urging parents that experience any difficulties with bus transportation to call their school Main Office. School personnel then report the information we need to resolve any bus issues as quickly as possible. If students are absent or tardy due to a bus issue, they will be excused from school.
Late last week, we became aware of issues with bus routes related to a hazardous area that was not included in this year’s transportation plan. In addition, we realized there were communication issues between the bus company, First Student, and our families. While we have tried to proactively address transportation issues by notifying affected families, we anticipate that some students may not receive the bus transportation that should have been arranged.
We expect all bus transportation to be on track by Tuesday, September 6, 2016. We will continue to communicate with families regarding this issue. We regret that bus issues may impact the start of school and district staff and our bus company are working hard to resolve them.
