District Enrichment Events

Geography Bee
The National Geographic Bee is a contest designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible for this entertaining and challenging competition. This year’s competition will be held on November 16, 2017 at Irving Elementary School.

The Art of Writing Young Authors and Artists Conference
Participating students from grades 3-8 will take part in a dynamic day of art and creativity on December 4, 2017 at the Milwaukee Art Museum.  Over 500 young authors and artists will collaborate on the 30th edition of the book, Art of Writing, which will include each student’s own masterpiece.

Spelling Bee
Scripps National Spelling Bee Program promotes classroom, school, district, regional and national spelling bees.  Students in grades 4-8 will compete at the school level with the winner advancing to the district spelling bee held on January 25, 2018 at West Allis Central High School.  The top six finishers will advance to regional spelling bee in February, 2018 sponsored by Cesa 1.

20% Fair
The 20% Fair is a concept that originated with the engineers and employees of Google to foster innovation and big ideas.  Grade 3- 8 participating students will present their topic, invention, service project or idea they
focused upon that would make their environment better in March, 2018 at Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate School.

Chess Tournament
Elementary and intermediate chess team representatives, grades 3-8, compete in a half day chess tournament.  After students compete in 5 rounds, the district winner and runner-up are determined at the elementary and intermediate levels as well as the top intermediate school chess team. The tournament will be held on May 18, 2018 at Irving Elementary School.
