Dear Wilson Families:
We continue to be a model school for Staff Development. In February we will have another day for teachers from all other elementary schools in our district come to observe our model classrooms. And, we’ll also have the first of three days for teachers outside of our district come
to observe and learn from us.
Our model classrooms are Mrs. Gosch, Ms.Sebastian, Ms. Pichler, and Mrs. Erickson. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank these four teachers for spending many extra hours to make learning more meaningful for students and to plan powerful staff development for teachers. Even though these four classrooms are the major focus, the rest of our teachers are also involved in this valueable staff development. All of our students are receiving the benefit of strong instruction.
Our students will be involved with MAP testing beginning January 24th through February 29th. This winter assessment is mid-point progress monitoring for both students and staff. With these new scores, our
students will be able to set individual learning goals and self-assess their learning progress. In addition, teachers use this assessment measure
to create instructional plans for each student. If you would like a copy of your child’s testing report, let us know. A formal copy will be sent home at the end of the year with the fall, winter and spring scores included. Our expectation is to have all students proficient in reading, writing, and math.
We need your assistance by reading and talking about books with your child 20 minutes each day. This book discussion with your child
increases their comprehension skills.
We will have parent teacher conferences on Tuesday, February 21st from 4:30-8:00 p.m. We have limited time and can only choose some students/parents. Only students that receive invitations are required to attend the conferences. Please contact your child’s teacher if you feel the need to have a conference and you did not receive an invitation.
Our next PTA family event will be the Talent Show on Friday February 24, 2012.
As always, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or
myself if you have any questions regarding your child’s education.
