     Woodrow Wilson School is located in the heart of a quaint West Allis neighborhood within walking distance of Wisconsin State Fair Park. This well maintained building was originally constructed in 1929 and has had several additions and renovations over the years. We have 460 students in 21 classrooms grades 4K-5th.)  Wilson School has a long tradition of providing its students with wonderful learning opportunities and a solid academic and social foundation. Through the efforts of all we strive to make Wilson a collaborative learning community to meet the needs of every child through personalized learning plans.

     Our academic areas of focus are maximizing individual student progress in the core areas of reading, writing, and mathematics, and science. We large blocks of time for Balanced Literacy (which includes Shared Reading and Writing,, Independent Reading and Writing, Guided Reading and Writing.  We incorporate 6-trait writing and the writing process across the curriculum. Our Science and Social Studies topics are woven through our Reading, Writing, and Math curriculums. 

     In addition to our core academics, we offer students a full curriculums in Art, Music, Physical Education, Library/Media, Technology, and Social/Emotional Learning at every grade level.

     We also offer a teacher directed after school academic programs (PASS) for children in the areas of Math, Reading, and Writing.

     Our summer learning program has been expanded to include an entire morning of learning (reading, writing, and math blocks).

     Positive Relationships are a high priority at Wilson. Our school staff and students follow the Fish philosophy, which recognizes positive individual and classroom behaviors.  The principles of the Fish Philosophy include:

     Wilson extracurricular student offerings include: Band, Orchestra, Chorus, and Suzuki music instruction; Student Council, Peer Mediation Program, Video Club, Recycle Club, Go Green Club, and Cadets.

      Our active Wilson PTA provides many entertaining and enriching programs every year for students and their families. Some activities include: WOW Orientation, Walk-a-thon, Reading incentive program, student assembly programming, School/Home communication folders, Family dance nights and movie nights, High interest day, Teacher Appreciation Activities, and Family Picnic. The PTA is tireless in its efforts to make the school a great place for kids. The entire Wilson community works together to make our school a caring and enriching place for children.

     We will continue to personalize learning for all of our students as they develop core academic knowledge through critical thinking, collaborating, communicating, and problem solving.  We are preparing students for success in today’s global economy.
