Irving Report Card

Irving Elementary is a school of diversity and unity. Set on a spacious campus with large playgrounds and ball fields, this single-floor school is home to 472 regular and special education students and more than 60 staff members who work with the students at Irving and throughout the district.

As one of four district elementary schools with programs for English Language Learners, Irving serves students in 4-year-old Kindergarten through grade 5 who speak English and 15 to 20 other languages. The school also hosts an Early Childhood Special Education program for three- to five-year-olds; a large program for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities; and a Community-Based Transition program sponsored jointly by the school district and the Recreation Department that serves citizens over the age of 18 who have developmental disabilities.

Irving teachers work closely with a highly professional group of educational assistants, occupational and physical therapists, speech and language clinicians, and student services staff. As home school to the district’s teachers of the hearing and visually impaired, three Special Health Needs nurses, and the coordinator of the cognitive disabilities program, Irving has access to a rich variety of resources to serve all students.

Community involvement is key to Irving School's excellence. Parents work as classroom volunteers, leaders of enrichment programs, and partners in every aspect of the school program. Irving's "Parenting for School Success" program draws families who represent a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds, and its PTA sponsors innovate programs that enhance the education of all students.

The diverse Irving community is unified by its mission and values. The staff has dedicated itself to teaching and modeling values essential to student success, including respect, integrity, collaboration and achievement. The school is using programs such as TRIBES, and Think SMART Act SMART to encourage positive behavior, as well as implementing a program of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports..

Irving School is proud of its success and humbled by the challenges it continues to face. Visitors are always welcome.
