Our publishing center was recently featured in a Milwaukee Journal article. Students take writing seriously and write books to share with family and friends, as well as for our library. Every grade level learns at school, as well as on special field trips. For example, our first graders enjoy going to the theater in Milwaukee, our third graders visit Miller Park, our fourth graders visit the capital in Madison, and our sixth graders take a three-day field trip to Camp Upham Woods near the Wisconsin Dells!

We have a hot and cold breakfast and lunch program, and an after-school program available to parents for a small fee. The after-school students participate in the SAFE program and may stay at school until 5:30.

While our students and teachers are terrific, we have two outstanding resources, our PTA, and our playground! The PTA sponsors many events during the course of the year such as two all-family dances, a high-interest day, a special year-long reading program with monthly incentives, and a carnival. The campus of Mitchell Elementary is large enough for our children to benefit from two separate playground areas, one for the little children, and one for the older children!

Our Code of Conduct is based on three principles: respect, responsibility, and being ready-to-learn. Students are expected to complete 10 minutes of nightly homework per grade level in school. Our colors are red and white, and we are known as the "Pilots."
