We are proud of our Franklin Elementary School family. Our friendly school provides children and families with a supportive, caring environment with high expectations, where every individual is valued and important. Because families, like yours, provide a strong foundation, Franklin is able to foster continued learning, growth and development for a diverse learning community, which includes students with a variety of special needs.
We are a school of about 345 kindergarten through fifth grade students, with14 classroom teachers, six specialists, seven resource teachers, one social worker, numerous traveling support staff, and five educational assistants. Our staff works as a team, planning for and delivering differentiated instruction and assessment, working to provide support to students and their families. We know that the key is communication and cooperation; and we make every effort to keep our families informed and involved in the education of their children.
Students learn about and practice good citizenship as they involve themselves in Peer Mediation, Peace Club, Cadets, Games Club, Lunchroom Helpers, Chorus, Band, Strings, Suzuki, Video, Spirit Club, and Service Opportunities. Special programs at Franklin include the monthly Second Step, anti-bullying and problem-solving program, which is facilitated by the social worker and principal. Homework Central offers support to students who need to get their homework done. The PASS after school program targets students who need additional math and reading instruction, with hands-on activities. Finally, resource teachers in the areas of learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, emotional and behavioral disabilities, speech and language, and early and intermediate literacy intervention wrap around students in need and serve as resources to classroom teachers and parents.
Parents and children are invited to attend the kindergarten picnic, open house, conferences, special literacy or science nights, PTA activities, and Preparing for School Success. Franklin parents never have to wait with their questions; we are always willing and able to pull a team together, meet, or gather information to provide answers. Our job is to serve our students and parents.
We are fortunate to have so many resources and minds working together to solve problems and to provide quality education for our children. We are a family, putting children first and providing care and understanding for growing minds. Our motto: When problems happen throughout the day, we solve them in a respectful way. We invite you to join our family of learners.
