West Allis - West Milwaukee Schools Energy Savings Top $1 million

West Allis - West Milwaukee School District teachers and support staff have chalked up a million dollars worth of good behavior.  Their energy-efficient practices have earned big savings.

West Allis - West Milwaukee schools have achieved $1,225,910 in cost savings in 25 months since forming a partnership with Energy Education, Inc., a national energy conservation company, which presented the district with its Energy Excellence Award at the Nov. 27 Board of Education meeting.

Superintendent Kurt Wachholz said that "The Energy Education program has been a great benefit to West Allis - West Milwaukee schools.  The program pays for itself and has been implemented at no extra-cost to the district and its property tax payers.  I congratulate our custodians and maintenance staff for working closely with Energy Education in identifying ways to conserve energy.  Thanks, too, to our teachers and other staff members whose cooperation over the past two years made these savings possible.  Their work in this energy conservation program has produced significant utility cost avoidance, which, in turn, has helped us keep pace with sky-rocketing utility costs."

Reaching the million dollar savings mark is a significant milestone, according to William Spears, CEO and founder of Energy Education.  He commended the district's commitment to "being good stewards of the taxpayers' money and environment."

A key benefit of the Energy Education program is that all costs come out of the existing utility budget, with savings projected to more than pay for the program, as they have done for the West Allis - West Milwaukee School District.  Additional savings can be redirected to other parts of the district's budget.  Like West Allis - West Milwaukee, many districts credit the program with helping keep personnel and programs that would otherwise have fallen victim to budget cuts - a very real concern with today's school funding crisis.
