WA-WM Schools Lead the State in Energy Efficiency

(December 16, 2008)  Preliminary data shows Wisconsin currently leading the nation with 88 “ENERGY STAR” rated schools, while Michigan follows with 51 of the 499 schools rated as “ENERGY STAR” schools to date in 2008. Wisconsin’s 88 public schools in 16 school districts, mostly in southeastern Wisconsin, rate in the top 25% of energy efficient schools compared to the national average. 

The West Allis - West Milwaukee School District leads Wisconsin with 11 “ENERGY STAR” rated schools according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s annual benchmark for the most energy efficient schools in America.  These ENERGY STAR schools are Central and Nathan Hale High Schools, Frank Lloyd Wright and West Milwaukee Intermediate Schools, and Franklin, Horace Mann, Jefferson, Longfellow, Madison, Walker, and Wilson Elementary Schools.
